Since the day of inception in 1987, ACTIVE has been playing a prominent role in hundreds of thousands of families in integrated, rural villages in Khammam District in Andhra Pradesh. Under the efficient, selfless hard-working Governing Body and able administration, ACTIVE made a difference in Remote, Tribal areas. Today these families stand in self-sustainment just because of ACTIVE. There is an overall growth not only in individuals, but in villages and community at large. Here are some CASE STUDIES. Achievements of ACTIVE can be enumerated in different heads :

Group Organization Achivements
  • Poorest of the poor and Socially, Economically backward people were organized in Sanghams in 80 villages.
  • Mobilized more than Rs. 4 Crore worth of Village Infrastructure like Schools, Roads, Drinking Water facilities, etc.
  • Mobilized 84 Old-age Pensions, 57 Widow Pensions and 3 DAP Pensions from the Government.
  • Mobilized 75 Anthyodaya, 33 Annapurna and 68 Drought Schemes from the Government.
  • 27 Sangham members were elected in recent Panchayat Raj elections out of which 9 are women.
  • 475 Sangham members submitted their applications to the Government for Ration Cards.
  • 520 Sangham members applied for Land Pattas for 1165 acres to the Government.
  • Apex Body was formed and orientation process initiated towards Self-reliance.
  • Individual/Family disputed are getting solved in Sangham purview in target villages. Sangham executive bodies are taking good initiative in solving problems of members. Now other villagers are neither approaching Land Lords/Politicians nor Police for solving their problems.
  • Women are taking initiative and participating in Sangham meetings and training programs. In 75% of families from target villages, all financial transactions are being dealt by women.

Economic Development Achivements
  • 800 Acres of waste land is converted into cultivable land. Of which in 600 acres, Dry Land Horticulture plants are raised thereby increasing the land value.
  • 1000 Acres of waste land was developed and promoted afforestation.
  • 40 Irrigation Tanks & Check Dams and one Major Irrigation project was constructed - 900 Acres of land belonging to target villages people gets irrigated from these Water conservation structures.
  • 80 Self Help Groups (SHGs) were formed and linked up to local Grameen Banking. Mobilized an amount of Rs. 3.3 lakhs as revolving fund from the Government.
  • By promoting organic agricultural practices, agricultural yield (paddy) improved from 13-18 bags to 28-35 bags.
  • Developed Vermi Culture in 40 villages. Farmers use them in agriculture.

Health Achievements
  • Family Planning operations increased by 350 in 40 villages and there is a substantial decrease in Child deaths.
  • 760 Families have their own poultry farms and they know the value of vitamins.
  • 35 Women took medicines and other maternity benefit schemes from the Government.
  • ANM Services are utilized well in all 40 villages.
  • 35 Out of 40 villages have ICDS centres and students are much healthier now.
  • 16 Children are registered under Balika Samrakshan Scheme.
  • Conducted a Tuberculosis Identification camp and 15 patients are identified. These patients got treatment and medicines from ITDA Hospital in Bhadrachalam.
  • Physically Handicapped students are helped to get their bus passes.
  • 12 Surgical Operations were successfully carried out in Kothagudem Hospital.

Educational Achievements
  • Enrollment in Schools increased from 75% to 100%.
  • Girls Enrollment increased from 47% to 95%.
  • Drop-outs percentage deceased from 47 to 5.
  • Succeeded in starting 11 new Government Schools in target villages.
  • Succeeded in starting 2 New ICDS Centres and 7 ICDS Sub-centres.
  • Overall merit increased much in children from target villages.
  • Villagers are demanding more new Schools and Teaching Staff.
  • Due to increased education awareness, SC, ST and Tribals are now getting 10 + 2 + 3 education.
  • 7 Students of ACTIVE are now teaching in Government Schools.
